Eligibility

In order to be eligible, you must have completed sufficient classroom instruction and clinical practice in

Adult health (medical/surgical) nursing
Maternal/Infant nursing (obstetrics), excluding gynecology
Nursing care of children (pediatrics) and
Psychiatric/Mental health nursing, excluding neurology

If you have not completed a sufficient number of hours in each of the above areas, you will not be approved to take the CGFNS Qualifying Exam until you complete them through a government-approved nursing school.

You must also hold an initial license/registration/diploma as a first-level, general nurse in your country of education, and currently hold a license/registration/diploma as a first-level, general nurse.

Earning the CGFNS certificate

You will obtain your CGFNS certificate once you have successfully finished the credentials review and passed both the English language proficiency test and the CGFNS Qualifying Exam® within two years of one another.

What happens if you fail the exam?

You won’t receive a CGFNS certificate if you fail the English language proficiency exam or the CGFNS Qualifying Exam®. For each test you failed, you will need to apply to retake it.

Keep in mind that you must pass the English language proficiency test and the CGFNS Qualifying Exam® within two years of one another. Retaking the test will cost you $350.
